One of the most common calls we get from our customers is that their garage door won't open.
If it's an automatic garage door, the good news is, it's often an easy fix!
Check the Powerpoint
This may sound simple but you'd be surprised how often it happens! First things first, always check the powerpoint for the garage door operator is working.
Check the Manual Release for your Garage Door Opener
Garage Door openers have a manual release. When you pull the manual release, it disconnects the garage door opener. This allows you to open the garage door manually.
Pulling the manual release by mistake will mean the garage door won't open with the garage door opener.
How to Engage the Manual Garage Door Release
Your garage door opener has a red cord that hangs down from the roof. This is your manual garage door release.
Make sure the door is in the down position, and pull on the red cord to engage the manual release. You should hear a 'click' noise. This disconnects the garage door opener from the carriage so the garage door can slide along the tracks manually.
Push the garage door up manually. Do not try to pull the door using the manual garage door release cord, it will break.
To re-engage your garage door operator, pull the red release cord down firmly.
If the manual release cord is damaged, broken, frayed, or missing the plastic handle, it needs to be replaced. If it is not working well, it should also be replaced. Our experts at KangarooGD can help.
